A dream inspired my song – Star-Shaped Flowers. I seldom use dreams as the basis for songs unless they come all-in-a-piece. I wrote the song After the Fall, my September 11 song, after a vivid dream I could not get out of my head. I wrote that song in the morning immediately after that dream, and Star-Shaped Flowers demanded the same.

In my “Star-Shaped Flowers dream”, my mother – dead for over twenty years – whispered to me from beyond a wall that stretched outwards and upwards into infinity. The vivid dream woke me up just before dawn. The strong impression the dream left inspired me to write down the dream-experience at once. As I wrote I remembered my mother’s life and her passing. The dream and memories led to the Star-Shaped Flowers lyrics.
