Hi Song Lovers,
I wrote the first version of the song Feed The Children over twenty years ago. My inspiration to write the song came one night when I turned on the tv at 1AM and saw an infomercial that showed the results of wide-spread famine. Seeing photographs and videos of children and adults who were dying from hunger moved me to give money to CARE and other non-profits who fed people and started my songwriting process.
Why did it take me so long to finish the song and release it? Good question. The initial drafts of the lyrics didn’t take long to write, but I did endless tweaking. Then I got the idea of creating a “character” who would sing the song – a homeless mother with a hungry child – with their own set of narrative lyrics and a spoken narration that led to the singing of Feed The Children. I worked a long time on that part, but finally decided that the three-part song would work better on stage than as an internet release. I may release that longer version later.
That’s my story for now. Thanks for reading my posts and listening to Feed The Children and my other songs.
Regards and best wishes; and remember, if you’re on your bike tonight – wear white.
