“Back Together” – Where Did this Song Come From?

The inspiration for the song “Back Together” came from hanging around with a single-mother who was raising a young daughter. She told me stories about her struggles to keep her head above water and her family intact and healthy.

It doesn’t take many of these first-hand stories to realize that the lives of single-mothers and single-parents often involve the battles to make a living and a living-wage, to pay the rent or a mortgage, to pay other bills like utilities, phone, car expenses, to buy food and clothes. The logistics a single-parent faces to juggle child-raising, work and attempts to create a social life are trying and often difficult, if not impossible.

I wanted to write a song that portrayed that struggle, while also adding a feeling of optimism; I hope I’ve succeeded in my own small way to do write that song. The cyberband Sonny Wray and Gold Rush has released a cover version of the song.
